Old cinema projector room pics.

I've just found some photos of an old disused cinema I took a couple of years ago.
They are from the old Kingston cinema SW London, Rebuilt into more rabbit hutch type "luxury apartments".
I managed to liberate one of the arc lights on my short visit before it all got skipped!
I'll make a nice table lamp out of it one day .

The old arc lights burn 1/4" thick carbon rods and get so hot they need an exhaust and cooling. I've salvaged the weird looking item in the second picture down, all the knobs adjust the height, angle and distance the rods are from each other, it must of been a real art setting it up.
If I'd had a bigger van and more time I would of had the lot out!
That green stand would look great made into some form of furniture.

Hi, Back in the 60s I went on a trip out with my Dads works social club, we went to Wembley to see a military tattoo or something. We were seated right up the top one side, the ends weren't occupied. Beside us was an army arc light searchlight unit for the display illumination, I spent nearly all the time watching them working away with it striking it up and throwing the spent carbon rods out. Dad told me off at one point for not watching what we were there for but they were infinitely more interesting than the display which could hardly be seen from where we were sitting.

Those aren't motion picture projectors, they are slide or effect lanterns. Probably left when the place closed because they weren't as commercially valuable as the movie projectors.

Interesting nonetheless, just watch for Asbestos

I've always liked to see around older buildings, the main cinema in Newcastle closed many years ago - with all the fittings and stuff still inside.
They recently got around to redeveloping the area, headlines at the weekend said that during the demolition the front of the building collapsed out onto the street google has lots of recent headlines in the news, just search for "Odeon cinema Newcastle collapse"
