Old Car Radio Questions

[Burdekin]

I have a old car radio from 1971 that I had in one old Volvo and thinking about putting it in another. It was from a scrapped car so don't know if it works, buttons are not working properly but maybe just needs some TLC.

It appears it is only LW and MW, so does that mean it will pick up only AM and no FM? Can these be converted for a reasonable price to connect to FM or even digital?

I seem to recall there is someone that remakes old car radios to change them to modern spec. I’ve seen the ad somewhere, I’ll see if I can find it later.

I was wrong, they want to sell you a new radio, sure I’ve seen another though.

Excellent thanks. Years ago we had a iPod radio transmitter to play through the radio, something similar. I like keeps it simple. Might need to give the radio a service though.

I've seen them too, service and then conversion is quite pricey.

I'd get it to light up for aesthetics and mount some modern gubbins behind dash to listen to

I've played around with some of the bluetooth amps you can get these days and they're actually pretty good. Certainly more than loud enough for a normal car scenario. Stick that inside of the unit like Mr Haynes says and a bit of LED lighting and you're done. You could even remove the original potentiometer and use the knob on the new amp if you were clever/lucky.

Think I paid about a tenner for a 50W+50W amp Burdekin. Can dig out the details if you want X

I found an old Ford radio in the cupboard and it's from an early + earth, might have been a Mk1 Cortina.

Most modern stuff have remotes so clever wiring for switches not really an issue

Can't find the weer one, not in my history for some reason. Would be too low powered though, was 5W output I think so pretty small.
