My Fimer plasma which was awesome but stopped working one day (sent it away for repair estimate ) so I bought a cheap (£170) 'Giant' chinese plasma to get me by. It took a while to figure out how to use it because I struggled to get it to start cutting. Once its actually going, it cuts great (didn't try it on thick stuff) very small neat cut in 2mm sheet steel.
Repair place (Technical Arc) they say they can't fix my Fimer machine) grrr. and are charging me for the privilage of not fixing it. So I want to get something better than the Giant since I don't have my trusty Fimer anymore.
I asked my local welding shop how much their plasmas are, about £1000 , Butters I think it was. So what I want to know is, is there a machine that works as good as the Fimer (Trafimet torch) IE the startup mechanism lets you start it on ANYTHING. It will even fire when held in mid air (for brief test purpose only!)
Must be something in between these two radically different prices. I have strong single phase electric and a nice big compressor.
Is there a UK supplier, online or at least phone order, who can supply a decent plasma that will last, takes decent electrodes, and has aftersales service, and could actually be repaired if it goes wrong?
Anyone on here have such a shop for instance?
I am in W Sussex.
Thanks!
