Oil sight glass help

Does anyone know the difference between a standard sight glass and one with a reflector? I have no idea what it is and google images is causing more confusion than resolve. Thanks in advance!

The standard ones have no back, the reflector ones have like a shiney piece behind the window with gaps to allow the oil through. Both work the same way, but with a mirror one your less likley to get a false level with oil spray.

As above the mirror ones are more likely to be easier to read

The only problem with the mirror ones is that they can hold some oil making it look like the level is higher than it really is!

Hmm its for a gearbox and headstock on a lathe so reflector it is I think. Thank you very much!
