Oil Filters

Hi guys,

I'm looking for replacement oil filters for a Honda GX690, I'm wondering if any of you know alternative replacements that cost less than the £20 Honda part.

Honda Part Number 15400-ZJ1-004

Is there anywhere i can get the dimensions from as I don't have one to measure.

I'm also looking for spark plugs and air filters for the same engine. The spark plugs are ZFR5F-4 and are £17 each.

Have you tried putting 'gx690 oil filter' into Google and seeing what comes up? £9.36 japgmowers, £10.21 ebay. There are tens of options. Ring your local professional mower shop.

Its like all these things, if you delve into the tech spec in the oil filter catalogues you can normally match something up for a fraction of the cost. We use a ford diesel oil filter on all our Kubota engines, its a £2 oil filter we buy by the box load vs the mental cost of Kubotas single offerings, never had an issue and our gear works very hard.

I looked at one for a Civic when I had my bike and they looked identical but the thread was different The car one was £4 instead of £12 for the bike. The plugs will probably be £4 each from someone who is not a garden spares dealer. I think the Corsa uses similar and they are cheap enough.

Ideally need more of a supplier rather than ebay as it's for work. The engines are attached to generators. That run 100hours every two weeks. Where can I find an oil filter spec book?

As @Agroshield said above any decent local garden machinery dealer is likely to stock them or mail order from the likes of https://www.japgmowers.co.uk/oil-fi...-gx690-engine-part--15400-zj1-004-34123-p.asp it is a common filter accross a range of Honda's so likely to be stocked by most local suppliers too.

I used to love buying Saab Oil filters, same filter from a 1968 Saab 99 right through the 90, 900, 9-3, 9000 and 9-5 to 2009, a GM part made in Poland laterly at under £3 for a genuine filter, i always kept a stock when my family ran Saab's.

Agreed, but so what, even if it's changed 9 times you're still quids in..... they probably came out of the same factory anyway, in a different box...

Harley have use the same size and thread pitch on there motors Since the 60s. The new ones have a blow off valve,(not required) and are 6x the prices of a vanilla 60s filter.

My 50’s GMC uses a bypass filter...obsolete. Unless you buy one for a forklift

You could also try someone like 'Inline Filters' as they have many lines of supply (i.e. they can find you a genuine one, a Baldwin one, a Brand No. 2 one, etc.) and could also supply on a purchase order or a call-off basis.

A bit of a filter derail and one for the fellow tightwads, on the fuel side there are quite a few machines/trucks with shocking filter prices.I leave these in on all of the machines and cut one of the filters below into the line as a pre filter, cant remeber the last time I needed to change an oem filter on a machine. They come piped and fitted with a bleed screw so easy to change,about £2 a pop if you buy a box load.

A bit of a filter derail and one for the fellow tightwads, on the fuel side there are quite a few machines/trucks with shocking filter prices.I leave these in on all of the machines and cut one of the filters below into the line as a pre filter, cant remeber the last time I needed to change an oem filter on a machine. Filters lose filter material in use. They become less efficient. A by pass valve blows if the filter becomes clogged. If its got to that stage your motor was doomed ago

They also have the drain at the bottom so you can drain off water.
