Same as my ford Fiesta, looks like almost the same engine, except there is even less room between air and oil filter. That pip thing is really annoying, trying to ensure it is in the right place, and I had to look up on the internet that you do have to destroy the filter to get the old one out of the housing, why make them that tight? I use the oil recommended for that engine, from my local motor factor, as the bloke says, it is a small turbo. My Haynes manual doesn't tell you how to get the service light off either, but U-tube does.

Never noticed @doubleboost does car servicing videos, handy.

I service my brothers Partner with the same engine. I usually just buy the cheapest oil that meets the spec, something like Triple QX, best will be Mobil 1, though its pricey. I usually just price Opie oils, Eurocarparts when I order the filters and Amazon/Ebay.

Good little engine's. Had a cambelt snap on one recently and it didn't bend any valves but the cam lobes twist on the camshaft they are just pressed on.

i always use good quality oil and change every 8 thousand miles

You don't really get "bad" oil, if it meets the specs it's good.

I use miller's usually because it's a UK company still making their product in the UK.

Watching that video the filter removal is childs play compared to the 2l 16v hdi engine! Similar type of filter but direct access is blocked by the inlet manifold. Can't get a socket on the housing so you either use a 'special tool' or a cut down 27mm spanner. Load of hoses in the way meaning you can't see what you are doing so you work by feel!

As for oil, I've been using semi synthetic Comma oils for years in the recommended grade & not had any problems. I change it at around 6k miles or annually, doesn't matter how good the oil is or what manufacturers say 20k is too long between oil changes.

When service intervals were 6-8k miles turbo failures were rare in cars, now with extended intervals turbo failure is common, especially on those 1.6 hdi engines!
