I have raided a fair few sheds in my time and this little lot came from a particularly dilapidated old building many years ago. So long ago I really didn't know what anything was! I knew I had a collection somewhere and today I found a box of this:
Looks like I had cleaned oiled and wrapped in paper prior to deep storage and this was the one I was particularly looking for.
Even I can tell what it is
Though nothing would move, clearly something should spin! This thing for eample.
A bit of heat, a lot of oil and a fair bit of patience later...
Everything is so tight and precise, it was actually quite difficult to see what was whole and what came apart but it came apart eventually. Looks like phosphor bronze bushings with ol grooves and the oil grooves had glued themselves solid.
Dunked it in a bath of acetone and got in there with a toothbrush.
Freeing it up was intensely satisfying, it turns beautifully smoothly. I even worked out how it was supposed to mount.
Clearly it is for delicate stuff. Watchmakers lathe?
I'm guessing nobody actually turns pins but speaking of guessing, how am I going to get this going? Fix it to a bed and fit a motor? Is it a component for some known item? Does anyone here know?
The label is of no help. Looks like it is a one off build, no manufacturers mark. What should I do with it?
