Oddball hammer - what's it for?

Dad acquired this from a table top sale yesterday. Principally because he'd never seen one like it before.
Cross pien one way and straight pien the other. Rough guesstimate would put the weight at about 1.5lbs.
I couldn't find anything like it in my 1935 Buck & Hickman catalogue.
Any ideas as to industry and purpose?

Ive got one, somewhere...it was my Dads.........I always thought it was for panel pins in tight areas....never used it

This is my roofer hammer/axe.


The history is one of my Great Uncles was a village thatcher, as his father was. When thatch was replaced by tiles, this was the tool he used to trim lathes to size. Plus fix and pull nails.,

According to his work records it was used to trim Thatch staples to size and notch staves.




All through the shaft is not the original, it is a good copy in hickory..
This one was edged to 30Deg on the cutting edge.
His other one, even older was sharpened again at 30deg but only on one side. Think Adze. That was used to cut out notches on beams when converting thatch roof to tiles.

Bit lightweight for a Farriers, may be a Smiths creasing hammer, going by the size/weight.

I said Tinkers Hammer as it is very similar to one I restored ages ago..

Those are actually plasterers hammers, but they do get used as roofers. Roofers axe/hammers usually have a proper claws built into them somehow.

This is my RN Paint chipping hammer. They had the ends ground to a rounded profile to chip paint and not "Ding De Deck"

A welders chipping hammer has sharper peins.

I was issued one, hence why I got that one, as a reminder when I was on Jankers.
