odd tap (not water)

Sorting through some bits and bobs i aquired a while ago and put this to one side , I thought it was a broach but pretty sure now it is a tap but looks like square thread to me . Has anyone seen one like this before ?

Square threads are used in high strength applications, so you'd need a tap.

Is it not for Acme threads you get on drill vices, clamps and the likes.

Unfortunately no markings at all on it , i suspect its quite old

The thread is 90 degrees though so like @Seadog says square thread most probably , what use it is to me i dont know but could be the same thread as some vices use maybe ? I hate chucking anything but may never use this. I will try to get a measurement off it later but to me looks like a very coarse thread to fast for a vice thinking about it now
