Odd question - who to go to for a 'permanent' keyring?!

Hi guys I know this is a really odd one. I'm in Australia, but my mum and sister are in the UK.

Mum has dementia and loses her keys all over the house. My sister has tried beeper fobs, but mum removes them as they look unfamiliar. I want to help her find a solution that will keep the keys attached to the beepers.

Nylon zip ties are no match for mum's nail clippers, so I'm thinking along the lines of getting stainless split rings, then finding someone who can put a quick tig tack on them so mum can't remove them. If I was there I could probably talk a local stainless guy into doing it for beer, but I'm not sure my sister would know who to approach, and I could understand a lot of welders turning the job down flat for fear of potential headaches with an oddball customer.

A couple of alternative ideas I thought of were swaged cable rings (no idea who would do that kind of thing), or to ask a local jeweller to solder something up - maybe even regular (presumably nickel plated) split rings? Basically I just want to suggest the kind of business she needs to find, and what to ask them for, but I'm a bit stumped!

Any suggestions?!

and just loctite the screw thread.
That way you could always break it free again if you had to.

What about using wire keyrings and a drop of red thread lock or glue to prevent them being reopened.

You have my sympathy; arranging stuff like this at a distance is difficult.
Whereabouts are your sister & mother in the UK?
I'm sure someone will step up if local enough for your sister to drop by.
All or any of the above suggestions seem like a good ideas, the shackles are easily sourced from Toolstation, Screwfix and probably the big DIY sheds though it may be difficult to thread them through a key so wire rope looks better, either with thread lock or just a loop with a crimp & ferrels.
I'm near Oxford if that's any good?

BTW, Big Clive on YouTube had to devise solutions to similar problems for his mother who was possibly further down the road. Might be worth a look.

Hi, What about M6 or M8 spring washer? just twist them open a bit more connect the key or fob and twist it back inline. Without pliers she won't be able to remove it. Just pop into a local small garage with a packet of biscuits and I'm they would oblige, little time and cost to them.

Run superglue into the keyring where it overlaps so it can't be split to slide the beeper off.

A 1.6mm stainless arc rod should be suitable for doing a normal keyring. Where abouts in UK? There will be a member local.

The wire swage/screw would be easier I guess but a normal keyring would be nicer to use.

Superglue is brittle and easily removed. Epoxy would be permenent but the potential to be messy with needing to mask off the keys.

Look up stainless steel cow ring or stainless steel pig ring or stainless steel bull ring
they have a break off screw to secure them
some are a copper alloy as well , in various sizes ..smallest I've seen years ago was about 3.5 mm round in dia x 20 mm across

Simply use some 3 mm stainless rod heat it wrap it round a bar of the best diameter cut it at 1 & 3/4 of a coil smooth the ends then use pliers to crimp it aesthetically round both fixing points .. it's how I put the thick self engraved stainless steel medallion on our dogs collar .. he kept tearing split rings off.

Lose the nail clippers! One option but anything that thwarts whatever flies through her mind is likely to cause distress.
With mother in law it was every other day she would balls up the telly, she would lose the remote & try & change channels with the phone, then try & phone us with the tv remote, caused some interesting wrong numbers!

Just lever the coils of a normal key ring apart as though you want to slide a key on or off - smear of glue in the gap, let it close. Not blather it all over and around.

Going to take more than a fingernail to prise it apart.
