OBD11 bluetooth fault code reader - anyone used one?

I've no experience with fault code readers, but I'm in the market for a used car and I wondered whether it would be useful to have a fault code reader to plug in and check for any underlying issues. Are these any use?

If not, any recommendations? I wouldn't have a massive budget for it, but it would be unlikely to see any vehicle newer than 2020, so used would be an option.

I have a basic (cheap) one and the Torq app on my phone. It worked on my Honda when the check engine light appeared; reset it checked everything suggested no fault found and the light never reappeared so I put it down to PC support procedure No. 1.
That looks a better bet if you have one of the listed makes.
