There was filthy weather blowing a gale here on Wed night, so I wasn't too surprised when t'internet went down. Oddly, I was still getting data from file-sharing, but nothing else, and the signal strength was up and down like a yo-yo.
I'd actually read about the O2 outage a couple of hours earlier, but didn't pay it any attention, but now I realise there may have been a knock-on effect here because 3 Ireland bought over the 02 structure and have been using it all over the place. I noticed my phone commonly hooks into an O2 signal instead of 3, but that never happens on the internet service (at least, not that it tells me).
Anyway, after a couple of hours I decided to try moving from 3's DNS service to Open DNS and the internet service suddenly returned. Might just have been co-incidence, but now I'm not so sure. I've had trouble with 3's DNS server before, and it was only that I'd recently put this modem into use that I left it at the defaults.
