O1 to mild?

I have a latch for something made from 5mmX.875" gauge plate, I want to stick a mild steel boss on
the bit of O1, it will be hardened and blacked after welding, if the weld doesn't black that's not a huge problem.
What filler is best?

Won't the high carbon content of the o1 cause it to keep cracking graffian ?

318 filler rods

Ronan, I haven't tried it but that's what I would expect it to do.
318 rods, any preheat or post heat needed.
