Nylon? Inserts to stop this rattling.

Going to make either end of a 6ft length of ali tube like this so it can be removed.
It's a breast bar for a horsebox, attaches to 50*50 box each side of the trailer.

The pin needs to come out fairly easily so making it tight fit/hammer in isn't an option...

I was thinking a nylon insert of some sort in the holes the pin goes through...but what?
Also maybe make the cut out part of the tube a bit bigger and nylon/plastic on the SHS....would still make some noise? But not the clangy metal to metal noise.

Or any alternative ideas so the pin can be removed easily but to stop the clanging!?

Make it like a clevis pin and put a spring under the head to tension it with an R clip in the other end.

what about another piece of tube, welded to the bottom of the box section

so this new tube slides down inside the old tube

with a bit of a chamfer on the bottom of the new tube you could make it a pretty tight fit


and then the pin through is just to keep it together, all the weight/pull/strength etc. is on your welded tube, which should be much stronger ?

Plastidip the mating surfaces and fibreglass pin.

Copy the stop pin you typically find on circlip pliers with interchangeable jaws.

Another vote for simple spring retainer.

found plastic channel with internal width of 50mm...can't find anywhere selling it in smaller quantity tho... 25x3M lengths is kinda OTT https://www.mkmplastics.com/shop/plastic-channels.html

Slightly bigger holes and heatshrink on the pins? Easy to replace when worn.
