Nyloc Nut on bolt, but I'm worried I'm missing something.

I'm putting the wheels back on the gantry and have the bolts I took out 16off.
They've all got nylock nuts, BUT the wheel plate is threaded.

I'm not fitting the nyloc, but I am using locktite red on each bolt. That should do, shouldn't it, or am I missing something?

This question does make me feel stupid, but I have no-one else to ask (BillyNoMates).

How thick is the wheel plate, how many threads will be engaged? If there's space, I'd probably err towards belt and braces.

Do the bolts tighten into the wheel plate, then are locked with the nyloc nuts? (Can't quite visualise the load path)

Wheel plate is 10 mm, welded to 120 mm x 120 mm box 6 mm wall, that's also threaded.

Threads engaged 12 to 14. Bolt 30 mm, 7 threads per 10 mm. 10 mm exposed inside box, 7 threads.

then tac weld them , peene over the end and maybe add lock wire maybe two lock tab washers and some anti vibe ramp washers and a circlip

is it a fighter or a tank ,,,, ?? dont over think it.

If there's no spacer in the wheel, the function of the nut is to lock the bolt. Over tightening of the bolt could result in the plates pulling on to the wheel and locking it.

The holes are threaded?
Tighten them up, with loctite if you like and put the lock nuts on.
It ain't goin' nowhere.

I wouldn't be using red - unless you mean pink, low strength? Blue is fine for pretty much anything - won't come undone on it's own, will come undone if needed.

Dab of 243 on the, done up tight. You'll not have any problems.

243 is blue, medium strength.


A lot of the time the frame would be capped, so no way to put a locknut on the back anyway.
