Nut splitter and forum etiquite

Hello all,
I have not posted for ages , and to be honest, not sure how I have managed this!
I have a few questions.

1) I have a sykes pickavant hydraulic nut splitter and I can't seem to get the 'anvil' retracted. It is sticking out and will not go back in. There is the anvil part, the screw threaded bolt which screws out, then inside the body of the tool, there is a piece of metal that does not/will not move up or down. to make matters worse, I have seen them on ebay, some with an allen key included, others without. Am I missing something?
2) Sometimes, I think maybe I should contribute more, but I don't know if that is what is expected on a forum? I mean, I've only really asked questions occasionally, but read this forum at-least twice a day. Then when I do, only a few very kind people reply. Is that why - I don't 'chat'?
3) As this was just a fluke managing to post, could someone explain how to do it? (How I did it).
4) Nice to actually manage this and hear from visitors to Scorton, etc.

PS If I don't instantly reply, its because I don't really understand how I managed it this time - hence q. 3!

I have one and it pushes back in ok it may have become stuck on an angle give it a twist with some pliers and try again

thanks snooper i'll try that, but are you on about the piece of bar that still appears to be 'inside' the handle part?

This was a bit of a fluke and haven't since the forum format changed to its present form, before it was quite clear to post when logged in it said "New thread" or "post new thread".

Yes, pretty much but an older version marked S-P. The problem metal bar is between the anvil and the silver section. I'll try and copy a link to one I'm watching on ebay if I can - and thanks snooper.

if it wont budge get something to knock it back in or wind it out further first if you can and clean it up, It may have become rusty
