Presume that is why most Scoobies around here have a square plate mounted to one side?

Yep it seems by far the most common fix to this issue is to replace the fog lights with blanking plates and stick a square number plate on over top he's adamant the fog's are staying where they should be in case their actually needed one day so not going down that road.

Used to, seemingly phased out due to danger to pedestrians in the event of a crash, (lengthways down the length of the front mudguard...so like a blade mounted on top)

They have foot paths, don't pay road tax, no insurance and no MOT.

Seems they don't need to be. Sadly, a number of accidents resulting in pedestrian fatalities have been reported recently where they're on the pavement(s) minding their own business when an errant vehicle has mown them down.

It was indeed.

Recently we have had some accidents in out area were the pedestrians have just walked out into the road, yes most on their phones.
I joke about it, but sadly it is getting worse.
