Null Island (lat 0.00 long 0.00)

So I always thought that latitude 0.000 and longitude 0.000 was jokingly referred to as Null Island only because the coordinates are a zero number / null equation.
A quick Google search seems to suggest there is nothing there apart from a weather bouy floating around in empty sea.

Somebody has just put the coordinates into Google maps and in the satellite view there looks like either a small island or a volcano or something there. Google earth seems to show the same thing.

Anybody know the truth of what is out there? This is a pub quiz question!

Pretty sure they would know if there was. Maybe Google is having a giggle about there very own null island

Null Island is a name for the area around the point where the prime meridian and the equator cross, located in the Gulf of Guinea (Atlantic Ocean) off the west African coast. In the WGS84 datum, this is at zero degrees latitude and longitude (0°N 0°E), and is the location of a buoy.

There are some stunning islands in that area - mainly uninhabited. They would rival the Bahamas or Maldives if there wasn't so much conflict in the area!
