An abrasive tube notcher is a wonderful thing, but a flap disc in an angle grinder is almost as fast and 100x better on the wallet.

If you are making tube based parts commercially a proper notcher is pretty much essential, but spending £1000 + on something for one off's or low numbers, isnt that great an idea, and the angle grinder flap/disc with proper cutting patterns is the way to go.

Mark out the notch you need with one of them online sites, rough it out as best you can with the grinder then take it to the line as best you can with a half round file or if you're really lazy grab a spiroband for your drill and take it down with that, will only take a few minutes and a lot cheaper than a notcher or even a hole saw.... Anyone else hate spell check? Third time I've had to edit this!

Danny I've only 32 notches left to do once I change over all the Bonsai trees from platform No1 to No 2 & take out the four supporting trestles form under it .
I've been doing one trestle at a time currently got half way ( ..platform No 2 is completed ) , . so everything can stay high up off the floor rather than me fully dismantle it all to remove & cut up the remaining four trestles in the same cutting session , as I had to get help with lifting the 45 kg platforms up on top of the trestles .

I tried " spiroband and kept getting cable tidy's it nearly caused the computer & keyboard to get drowned in hot tea.

I've just put " Spiraband " in and got the items ..thanks Rob .
I can afford a mandrel and 50 sleeves ,so this is the route I will be taking once I get out of hospital ( a week today ?? ) with my new knee joint & am back up & hobbling around again all healed up .

I have similar smaller lighter sleeves for my Dremel but could never find replacement sleeves . Getting a decent power drill sized set up going should be great .

Battery acid takes galvanising off no problem, with a satisfying fizz. Do it outside though, preferably up a mountain.

Citric acid will do it when warm too. Much more skin friendly too!

Just after I posted about the spirobands I googled them to make sure they were readily available but I kept getting cable tidy things as well and started thinking they were possibly something we use almost exclusively in the aircraft industry. If you look for places that sell air tools like die grinders and small pistol drills you should find them as I think that's what they were designed for
