I was viewing a thread which recommended fitting new lens covers and checking that the plasic films were removed. ( couldn't find it to rejoin the thread) I fitted new lens covers and checked the old for plastic film

I removed the new lens covers again and with the aid if a Stanley blade removed one more sheet of film from each.

What a difference. No need for chalk or extra light (what a waste of time and effort over the last couple of months).

A friend of mine bought a cheap helmet from ebay and was cursing it for being foggy and hopeless to see through till I asked if he had removed the film from the inside of the reactive lens. After that it was the best thing since sliced bread.

Went to BOC today to collect stuff. Mentioned the film issue to the chap running it - who is generally a font of knowledge - and he was surprised, checked with the lenses and agreed with me.

The film was on both faces.

Had great fun today, nice accurate welds and after taking notice of advice, nice and flat. I'm in danger of thinking that I might be getting there

Just checked, everything looks fine but the penetration is crxp.

Oh well, more practice, at least I can now see what I am doing wrong!!

Upped the power, adjusted the wire speed, changed the angle and everything is lovely - penetration sorted!
