so I went out to the shop this morning and noticed a new problem with the megane. namely the exhaust was falling off.
now after spending all day sorting it out I have realised that when I was supposedly repaired under the insurance, it was actually just bodged together to get me out of there.
both exhaust hangers were broken, the centre on had snapped off the exhaust and the rear one is chewed to bits.

tail pipe is hanging far too low due the centre hanger snapping and the joint twisting badly, causing the rear hanger to twist and start to split (and yes I am using the top of an old flat pack table as a mat to lie on to avoid gravel rash on my back lol)

the centre section fell off the cat with little more than a nudge after securing the stands

the centre hanger retrieved from the car, fairly obvious where it failed. strangely the rust is only superficial and does not go right through so im not entirely sure why it failed

this is where the hanger used to be, again the rust doesn't penetrate right through

literally snotted some weld on and put a bit of paint over to protect it a bit. it doesn't get hot so just put some acrylic out of a rattle can on it. held roughly in place and tacked on but couldn't get the torch in well enough to put a proper bead on so just settled with what I could get. its plenty strong enough for what it is. it took al 18 stone of my weight when I jumped on it to test it

looks about right too, who needs a welding table when you have a battered up workmate with some decking timber screwed on lol

and just for good measure I found this at the bottom of my box in 2 pieces so decided to stick it together and use it to re-inforce the rear hanger until I can get a new pair and put them on. again, welds aren't the best but they hold more than the metal does so they will do for me. was welding in the carpark with people walking their dogs so couldn't spend too much time welding it up at a time.
(had to take photo inside the car because the sun decided to come out)
