I stopped off yesterday to grab some steel from my local fella Ray at Watson & Sons. He's an old school metalworker, engineer, blacksmith, BOC outlet and a full on hunting, shooting, fishing type. A usual, what should have been a 10 minute visit stretched out to over an hour as we chewed the fat and talked about past engineering feats and the odd tip of the trade.

Anyhow, I've been going in for years now and finally got round to taking some pictures of some of his kit. I have no idea what most of it is (other than it's a lathe, it's a guillotine etc) but thought I'd share.

It's pretty difficult to get any better pictures due to the 3 tractors and dumper truck taking up space...

If Derek his Father was still alive he would box his ear's, he kept the spot tidy, I used to use the cold saw when I got my steel there years ago until I think one of the lads highlighted I was not employed so also not insured...which was fair enough I suppose.

I may be offering Ray my help to build a lean-to round the back of the workshop so he can keep the tractors out of the way.

I saw one of those machines in the second picture last Saturday, disused on top of a shipping contained in a yard. I'm guessing its a band saw ?

He has the same band saw as me and if I'm right it the cold saw a Brown Super 200? I have just picked one up although I don't know why cos I've already got a brown 300!!

Those are the best types of workshops, a little bit messy (although I bet he knows where everything is) full of old, oily machinery (old being the best) and full of toys
