Hi there, joined forum for some tips, advice and general knowledge.

I am currently in process of building a L200 4x4 off-road monster! I am now on the horizon of making a rollcage and rock slider's and will be asking plenty questions soon. Here is how my current project stands, alot has already been done -

I am looking at making something along these lines for it in the near future, it's my mates truck -

Yours looks ok though Stick L200, still haven't got round to fitting a bar to the back of mine yet but I've done the back out in alu chequerplate .

It's all standard and gonna stay that way, although i'm making rock and tree sliders for a local landrover guy to fit to his 90 and sell the rest

err,a ton, no , but youd be surprised what i have carried, friends dirt bikes broken down in fields 2 miles away ect (dont ask the rest) , i really have wrecked the thing now, its a moped not a van/tractor bet youve not heard that saying before!

Absolutely!
Saying that, the only towing I've done lately is 3 cars that have got stuck on the grassy hump at the end of our lane! All in the same week too!

the most ive towed with the pedron (new word!) was a friends broken chinese pit bike on a farm road, he asked me to get it from the bottom of a field (brobably 1/2 a mile away) and since it was really really cheap i destroyed it for him by towing it sideyways for half a mile!,, got it to 35mph! , got a vid of it somewhere, anyway, threads being sidetracked sorry

edit- oh and its a true tractor too, its got about an inch of mud all over it and its not been washed in months, i really have wrecked it, i need a landy!

The bob tail rocks. I have another spare tub i was going to chop up again and sell on. I also have a tow-bar and chequer liner that wants to go too.

Phil - Have you made any drawing or any measurements then for the sliders, i have mine drawne up adn that just need to get cracking?

Ooh, what sort of towbar??? I've got a flippin' gert step on the back of mine which makes the truck so much longer. I don't really need it now I've taken the carryboy off so I was thinking of taking it off and just having a towbar instead as the ball is mounted to the back of the step.

Its a witter tow-bar. Ive got the drop plates and the actual tow-bar, no bolts to fix tow bar to drop plates though and they were dooshed, Easy enough to pick up some stainless bolts to put it back together. Would also need the electrics to if you wanted to tow.

Hi Stick,
I have all the dimensions although i had to crawl under really muddy landrover although the bigger wheels and 2"body lift helped.
We made a smaller sample with offcuts of steel lying around, they're gonna be really heavy the main body is 100x50x3mm tube we've got 40x40x3mm for the step area and tube dia 42x3,
Found an excellent company locally to powder coat them, we went into for a look around and they actually powder coat the defender front bumpers for landrover.
I've got to order the steel tomorrow for 5 pairs of rock sliders and 5 pairs of tree sliders, i'll take some photo's when they're done.

i thought about making some for the warrior but tbh the closest i get to off roading is parking on the verge

Sound, nobody does them yet for the L200. I was going to buy Landrover 110 sliders and adapt them to fit the L2 chassis. A guy i know would knock the sliders up with tree slider bits added for around £50, then i just need to knock the mounts up with CDS tubing or Scaffold tube.

Not many of the newer pickups can now tow 3 tonne.
Some are as low as 2600 & 2800kg. Not sure why this is but its just about only landies that can tow the full 3500kg that a standard licenced driver is allowed to tow.

I just fitted a standard towbar to mine, i was worried about it sticking out but it's just about flush with the bumper and i can still let the tailgate straight down without hitting the towball

You can do that with the one i have. My drop plates push the tow bar out abit further than your's is sitting there but it was used to tow boat hence the drop down and clearance.

Have you had many problems with the L200 -

Heads/blocks cracking, dip stick tubing brackets snapping, bottom pulley failure, diesel pump failure, EGR cooler cracking, flashing 4wd light when in 2wd ??

Thankfully not all of those .
I had a coulpe of small problems when i got it.

the dash, no. plate & passenger rear light all kept blowing a fuse, found the problem more by accident, it was the rear diff lock wiring rubbing on the hand brake so every time you pulled the handbrake on it shorted out - soon sorted that with pvc tape

the back windows stick ocasionally (but that normal if you read the L200 forum) spray them with silicon spray soon sorts them out.

The remote keyring battery was dead, i changed it the keyfob worked but wouldn't lock/unlock the truck, the manual said take it to mitsi but again went on L200 forum found what to do and fixed it in 2 mins (reckon that paid for the owners club fee)

all of the other problems you've listed turn up over and over again on the L200 site, i hope you haven't suffer to many of them
