This had to go in the brew room. The kitchen kettle packed in today, so the missus added it to the shopping list. In the mean time I have a Tesco own brand kettle in the brewery, so I thought I would get that for now.
I did think there was a funny smell in the brewery the day after I bottled my last brew, I never thought much of it until now. I noticed that the kettle was turned on with the neon glowing. The last time I used was during bottling the last beer about 4 to 5 weeks ago.
This is the result, I'm guessing that this happened quite soon after the last brew.
Looks normal.
However lift it off the base
And check underneath
The fuse hasn't blown and there is an RCD on that ring main and the element was no longer hot so must have failed at some point without going to earth, hopefully quite quickly to save my bill.
I would have thought that there would be some overheat protection.
