Night storage heaters

Anyone know anything about these things?

Creda 70215 (also has the fan underneath.

Symptoms, whatever the dial is set at, when the night storage is switched on, it just keeps charging, getting so hot you can barely touch your hand on it...

Looking at it, i guess it can be one of a few things, thermostat? theres a circuit board aswell...a relay... are these part of the night storage system, of the fan...?

Theres a knob thats fixed in a set position (item 13) its part of the thermostat...only accesible after the outer cover is removed. Could i just turn that down a bit?

Have you tried UHM?

Sounds like the thermostat not working - the adjuster is probably a factory trimmer, will only have a small effect on temp.
Circuit board is probably part of fan speed controller looking at diag.

probably the charge controll knacked no 10 on diagram thermostat u can order parts from city electrics i think b bloody dear bout 40 quid if u have 2renew heater just go for stanrdard nightstore there much cheaper and more reliable

generaly if thermostat goes thermal link no 12cuts out then nothing works

oops sorrey no 13 possibly charge controll thermostat trace the wiring if it passes through the thermal cutout thats the part

That 13 is all part of the thermostat...? Think it was linked to the fuse thing, justa short wire between them...

should b able to hear it click when heating up if u turn it up and down if not its had it

With both leccy supplies switched off, i hear nothing while adjusting the control, (10)
With the normal leccy supply switched on, i can hear quite a loud click, i think that is the relay though...

The amount of power being switched I would expect the thermostat to be powering a relay which switches the current to the heating element. You wont always hear the thermostat click.

not through relay they take the direct load some 3 and a half kwbig blue flash when they break

Yeah, thats what i figured, its about 3.5kw.
What makes me think its something to do with the thermostat, i hear the relay click when controler is at about 4.5 of the maximum 6.
Room temperature in here tonight is about 15degs max

I think i might get the heat gun on it nice and gently tommorow, warm it up and see where it clicks in.

no nightstore heaters have relays to swich elements. thermostats rated to 16 amp the charge controll thermostat and cutout are the only things that normaly go on em the elements last for years
