when you get a lathe you can make more usefull parts and just buy the tap wrench. things like that are made because you have nothing better to do been there and done it

Half of me wants to agree with you, half of me thinks that it is better to get to know the thought process behind using a lathe, setting up tools, order of cuts to make and how to get a good finish then end up with something useful. Which is much better than just making swarf for the sake of it.
