NICE BODY ROD

Hi

question for the hot rodders on here really, or anyone who knows,
what fiberglass bodies are available in this country that are a pick up body and around the "32" period ?

l want to rebody this iveco

the reasoning behind this is l need to tow around a big fifth wheel camper that weighs around 5.5 tons,
the iveco has a train weight of around 8 tons so fits the bill nicely but the body is a bit rough and most sites have a no commercial vehicles rule which keeps tripping me up, l was thinking of fitting a nissan navara body onto the iveco chassis as there seems to be a million of them on ebay with exploded engines. that way l would get a nice body with nice trim and it wouldent look like a commercial vehicle, but expanding that further if there was a manufacturer of replica 32/34 pick up bodies that might be a nice project, iveco has a 110" wheel base, so who makes what in this country ???

A COE (Cab over Engine) is what you need. And I would say Langy is your man that would know. But I haven't seen him on here a for long time. Best sending him a PM or calling him Langy Speed shop.

I doubt you'll find someone over here building them though.

How do other people with 5th wheel motorhomes manage at these events

sounds like a full on custom job to me, looks way too big to take a Nissan body. And much bigger than anything from 32. Does it have to be re bodied? Or is it just something you want

most people just use a yank double cab 4x4 dually pick up F350 comes to mind with

no it dosent have to be rebodied just want to get away from the commercial look, 4 seater 4 door would be nice
the 110" wheelbase throws it right into landrover hilux nissan length but havent checked how wide a nissan or hiluxi are, iveco is 72" outside of tyre to outside of tyre
as much case of doing it because its interesting as much as needing to, and l can carry on using the iveco in the pic for now as l have another l have just acquired from an airport that towed a baggage trailer air side, 22k miles from new, auto nice running gear, chassis, drive chain etc but the cab is well dented so thats the one l want to rebody , would be looking to replace the 2.5 lt iveco engine with a chevy 6.5 turbo diesel or simalar if l can find one

if it's registered as private lgv pulling a camper it's not classed as a commercial but most UK site don't cater for anything bigger than 30 ft lots of owners with big RVs have this problem

they do indeed but most still dont have the steering wheel on the "right side"
do you know what the train weight is on a F350 ?

there is a range of fivers that are built for the uk typically they weigh around 2.5 tons so things like nissans toyotas can pull them about no trouble
when you move up to the american ones with multiple slides outs they get heavier very quickly way past the 3500kg that most if not all uk pickups can legally tow ??, they can do it l can haul mine around my own land with my hilux no problem its just not legal on the road, so then you have two choices commercial vehicle such as a mitsubushi canter crew cab ( nice ) or American truck where by you may have an issue as they dont plate the trucks for train weight over there so when you get stopped over here you cant point at the chassis plate and say look 10 tons train weight, truck will easily pull that but l believe dvla assign the truck 3500kg train weight in the absence of a stamped manufactures plate, l know you can walk into any sign shop and have new chassis plates made with a fictions train weight on !!

yes they are well know reputable company, they can up rate your nissans towing capacity with springs and airbags for a price but still a very long way short of the 5.5 tons l want to tow

and a class one licence was a grey area at one time

hilux l could live with, landrover well you need to be a midget to fit in and it would get nicked as soon as it was finished lol

l will check out some vehicle widths this week and see what fits with out too much modification

l already struggle on gravel, wet grass will stop me dead, they do a 4 wheel drive iveco but having trouble finding a front axle for one at the moment but will keep looking

will have a read of your link when l get back but expect it to refer to towing capacity not train weight as is required in the uk
