Nice battery charger bit of info to get working well ?

I've got a large battery charger I'd expect it had been droped as a bit of damage to a bit of plastic and was in the scrap pile

I retrieved it see if I could fix and after reconnecting quite a few crimp slide connectors 1 fallen off completely and a few that where not realy making much connection its working as should or at least the 12 volt side is as got it charging a 12 v battery and fast and slow seams to produce 13v and 14 volt respectively

But the help I need it be nice if the amp meter worked on it so I can see it charging and it's not

Any ideas I'm not even sure its wires up right as I thought power needs to go through amp meters to work but the way its wired up I'm assuming the coil is supposed to take the amps through the meter as it ive not swaped and leads on this its as it was but only thing I've done is reconnect the one side of the coil that had come away from one of the connectors

Ps and one want to take a stab at what fuse should be in the t5a fuse slot 5 amp 250 volt slow blow there's not details on it so I'm guessing on this ?

It looks like you have two leads going to one terminal of the meter. The coil of wire is a shunt which takes most of the current.
Without a clear picture I can't be sure, but I think that the black wire should be on the other meter terminal.

The problem with that is the output is not regulated, and under light load you should check the maximum output does not go too high for a lead acid, which is generally around 14.7v although some types prefer lower.

I note the plate states 230v but generally in the UK we get 245-250v, so its something to be checked!

Be useful for powering plenty of other things however.

Will have look thought them as still need to know the t5a Fuse rating hope that might have it in there

The volts coming out when on charge as said was 13.3 ish on min and 14.4 on fast so that ok ?

No danger if you connect the meter wires backwards, if the meter works in reverse just swap the wires to fix it.

Unless things were disconnected when you got it, I'd assume the first wire (red) is where it should be and the 2nd wire (black) has been put in the wrong place so swap that one and see..

If the wires on the shunt/ ammeter were loose or not well connected, it's possible the meter has taken full current without the shunt and goosed itsself

You can check if it's charging by putting a multi-meter across the battery terminals set to voltage and then turn on the charger.

A rise in voltage will indicate that the charger is working, but not the amperage.....

i swaped over the wire and nothing it did only at that point as @Anguz pointed out think yes if the cable has come off the power might have gone through the meter so its lightly to be carp now so might have to find a new replacment as yes can get a meter clamped over to cheak is going to be a bit of a pain but doable if realy needed as wont use it much but stilll a pain

Just a thought , I have fixed a similar meter on a SIP Boost charger , the meter was a moving iron meter and the coil is actually the excitation for the meter so it needs to be over the body of the meter. Worth a try, if that doesn't work it was probably a shunt hard to tell with out seeing it
