I came across this site whilst looking for something (cant remember what)

which details some interesting gas turbine testing kit which is soon to be scrapped - to give a sense of scale the compressor plant consumed 36,000hp or 27.5 Megawatts on full power

If you do a google image search for ngte some of the stuff looks as if it should be on a SciFi film set.

I true British sense what used to be the most advanced testing site in the world is due to be replaced by a supermarket distribution center...

I'd love to have a look and round and it'd be great to have see some of kit up and running.

Alas its all heading for scrap now and even though security is tight it does sound possible to get in - one of the 'visitors' that has been there quite a few times to take photos mentioned hiding from security only to find out the guys they were hiding from were some pikeys ripping motors apart for the copper!

Some of the stuff HAS been in a sci-fi movie, it's a very well known place or explorers, I would love to see it but doubt I ever will.

The amount of air they could move was awesome, they could easily make supersonic jet engines think they were flying at full speed at any altitude and in any weather conditions.
