Newbie

Hello,

I bought a car that needs welding.
It's a discovery 1.
Should this be part of the m.o.t (see pic)
What metal sheet should i purchase to repair and how much does it cost.
I'll be using my portamig 185 and it'll be my first weld job on a vehicle.

Any tips please.

disco rot

welcome to the mad house

have a look at this lot all i did was type disco rot into search at top of page if yours is that bad on the top by the time you take the sill covers off and prod about a bit you will find a lot more

metal on a disco i use either 1,2mm or 1.5mm

these are good for disco bits

Yea i may have been on the site for two years but i don't get much welding time.
The only welding i have done has been posted on the site and that's it.

No i just bought the car.

Im so so much a newbie to welding.

Your probably right but i don't know what is and what isn't needed for m.o.t. Thanks for links.

I'll need to strip the carpet right out and take a look.
I don't mind if there is (i know there will be) more welding to be done, its just the extent of it.
I still want to take the car off road in the meantime.

The external seals on both sides of the car are solid box section with rock sliders welded to them.

Yes unfortunately my portamig needs more use but earning a living, and other thing get in the way.
Now i have the disco it will have to come out and my experience may improve though always need advice and help.

Once i get going i'll be taking pic's especially for this site.
I'll be searching for as much info before i start.
There will be some patches welded on this disco to practice while the car is still use. When i get rid of the rangy i'll try for a project disco and take more time on it.

Don't mind that shock cos I'll get more practice... Lol
All the carpet has gone and the floor seems solid exept the drivers floor pan.
I may post another pic now there's no carpet.
