Hi Guys, just signed up and first post but I have been using this site for a few years for all the information available here.
My situation is that I have done some MIG welding in the past and enjoyed it. Then I did a little bit of TIG and really enjoyed the challenge.
I'm coming from this purely as a hobby and I don't have massive pressure to finish any specific project but I do want to do lots of different things (ie, outdoor furniture, frames for indoor furniture, sheet metal, pipework) and possible in different materials.
I have decided to get a TIG machine, starting with some stick welding and then moving onto TIG when I can get all the extra bits in place and have time. Now my real problem is I wanted to get ~ 200 A AC/DC TIG hoping it would do everything I ever wanted to. The problem is the cost.
But I can get a decent DC only machine ie this one:
http://www.r-techwelding.co.uk/welding_equipment/Tig_Welder/TIG_Welder_Digital_Series_200A_DC
Am I missing something here other than the lack of alu/mag welding? I don't see me doing much of it other than perhaps the odd repair. Or should I be saving up the extra £1k so I wont be wanting to swap this welder in the next few years?
Thanks for you help guys.
Alex
