Newbie SIP user - tips and shrouds

Hi guys,

Have recently got hold of an old SIP Migmate 100 (red torch button if that makes a difference). After a shakey start I thought it best to give it a quick overhaul - new liner, tips and shroud. So off to Halfords, buy the bits and strip / rebuild. Anyway the shroud I got (and the only size any of my local halfords have) is too short. The tip is screwed in as far as it will go but still sticks out about 1/4 inch from the end of the shroud.

Where can I buy longer shrouds (or have I done something stupid)

Hi Paul, I am an SIP rep in Plymouth, and if you have a welding machine with a built in torch i.e. hard wired then you should buy form an SIP stockist to ensure the correct tips and nozzle size. If, however the torch is a "Euro" type connector i.e. it is easily removed by unscrewing it, it really depends on the type. The "Binzel" type is the most common, and most welding suppliers will stock these. The price varies on size, and taking into account that yours is probably a 100 amp welding macine you will require the small 150 amp tips with an M6 thread. I assume your torch is hard wired and is therefore best to contact an SIP stockist rather than take pot luck with non-welding outlets such as Halfords.

There are 2 sizes of migmate shroud, short ones and long ones, the tips are the same and M5 thread.
Halfords would not stock the long ones as they have not been used for years, I have a 12yr old migmate manual and it shows them.
The very old migmate 150 gasless had the bigger torch and M6 tips.
