Newbie saying Hi

Hello, I am new to this site and thought I would say hi..

I found the site after trying to find out about how to mig weld (i know college is probably my best bet, but my days are pretty full as it is). I have been browsing without registering for a couple of weeks now and I am very impressed with the way people on here give advice to novice wannabe welders like me.

I am currently looking for a welder (I have my eye on Clarke 150TE to be honest..I want to buy new but will probably be off ebay as my funds are in paypal) for a restoration project on my Escort cosworth. I need to do the odd bit of welding, only seat mounting under the car and to fill a small hole in the sill which was covered by the body kit ( if anyone is interested in looking at my restoration project then let me know and Ill post some piccys) So really I want to get some sound advice about the welder (if its suitable for the job). I wont be cutting body panel or anything like that...its just a case of cutting out some small sections of metal and then flushing a new piece of metal into it.

Welcome to the forum Neil. There`s a projects section on here, post up some piccies there when you get going, or a few here. There`s always someone around to offer sound advice and it`s there`s quite a good communtity feel. As you say your funds are tied up with paypal, something i don`t really understand but i don`t use it. Weldequid on here is a trader and should be able to get you the Clarke yourafter, most likely at a better price, i believe he also trades through ebay so thats another problem solved.

hi all

hi i am new to this web site nad to weld i have just started a body repair course but because i am a fully quolified mechanic they have thrown me in the deep end and put me on the welding last year to be honnest i need to lern how to do spot welds and plug welds alot better and i was wondering can you help me

I cant help mate as I have never picked a welder up in anger before. I am sure there are others on here that can help... good luck with it though

Just a thought. You said:

There is a member - weldeqip - who is a dealer for Clarke (and others) may be an idea to contact him (I think you may need a min of 10 posts to be able to PM him - not sure) but many of us have bought stuff off him and he provides a first rate service, he is usually cheaper than Machine Mart and uses paypal if that helps.


Errr! also Matt - woody21 - maybe an idea to post your intro as a new thread in the introduction section of the site - but welcome anyway!

Cheers for that JR mig.... If this chap is cheaper than Machine Mart then I would go for the 160TM I think it is... I dont want to seem like taking the P and emailing now saying " hello mate, can you get me a welder ". ..would rather give my money to someone like that chap who is recommended though than a shop I have never used before

Cheers matey, I PM'd weldequip and he responded almost immediately. I have a 160Tm on order now so hopefuly I will be blowing holes in metal some time friday when i set up a gas account... nice one
