newbie question

not really what youd call a newbie.have messed around for over a year now,so guess id have to say im a more than a newbie but less than proficient although i have 2[yes 2]really smooth beads to my credit ..was welding mild steel yesterday[or trying to]clean metal,good gas flow, temp was right,,,,,green spark!been told [was you welding alum?]no,[good gas?]yep,same gas i used a month or so ago. same wire and everything.did actually weld the pieces together.well as good as i ever weld anyway,[by the way they were not structural,so not real important to be welded properly].just basically practicing.green spark?help????

Errrr.....are you not looking through a green glass in your mask?
If the sparks are genuinely not the colour they should be and you're using the correct wire and gas then there is probably some sort of coating on the steel which needs to be ground off in the vicinity of the welds.

thought about that too.bare steel,as bare a steel as ive ever seen.wierd,didnt think i was colorblind.lol.i dont know,will do some more sat.and see what happens.
