Newbie:Gasless Welding Help

Hi.
I have a 135amp welder using 0.9 Flux Core Wire. I am improving my box trailer. It is made up of 50mm x 50mm x3mm steel.

My problem is when welding horizontal my welds are ok, but when I weld vertical that is where the problem starts. My welds just dribble and drop to the floor. I set it at Power 6, Wire Speed 5. My steel has a V-groove. I have tried speeding up and slowing wire speed but 5.5 seems to give a nice 'crackle' noise.

Any help is appreciated.

I am lucky that I can move things around and always weld horizontal, today however laziness got the better of me and I did a vertical weld that turned out perfect..I ran the weld downwards with the nozzle angled very slighty upwards..no idea if that is the correct way but it certainly worked.

Am sure more experienced members will give you better advice though.

Welding downward will have less penetration. You will need to up the power and wire speed to compensate.

Upward welding, you can do a triangle pattern or a simple up/down weave. Mobe a bit ahead allows the weld pool to solidify then back down to fill in.

I tend to up the power and weld down. You will need to adjust the settings and practice on scrap.

Thanks. No6 is full power for me so maybe just have to turn the part o. It's side and weld horizontally!!

Or practice going up. I sometimes use a bit less power when going upward than going horizontal.
