New welding Jacket

I just treated myself to a proper welding jacket.
There was a Lincoln 3XL on Amazon for a decent price and I wanted something good quality as I now have the big mig.
Yes it matches my mig but that's just coincidence.

We talk about lids a lot but what are you guys wearing jacket wise for protection?

Or one of my old (due to re-branding) work jackets, they are a nice heavy cotton that stand up pretty well to grinding and welding. Plus they fit a bit better than the cheap leather one.

It was £139 delivered which I didn’t think was too bad considering the quality.
I had a silverline welders apron and it was carp.

It was a treat mate and it’s very comfortable.

I just wear my coat, something like this:



Got it because it had longer sleeves so was ideal for cycling in the winter but being thick denim/cotton it's hard wearing and does a fine job of blocking UV so I only really take it off in the garage when I'm turning, I don't doubt my arm would break before the sleeve if it got caught on the chuck.

Incidentally, I see quite a lot of people wearing them now, must have started a trend. Wanna say it was about £50 from H&M or TopMan.

Trouble I see with those everyday coats is if you are leaning against, resting on hot metal whilst welding.

If the weather's cold, I wear an Abercrombie & Fitch snowboard's jacket for anything 'in the shed, from welding to lathe work, drilling etc. If it's really Baltic, I have the padded boiler suit which @Burdekin sourced for me in Aberdeen [brilliant things! ]

In summer I have a pure cotton ex British Rail track worker's (?) jacket, reversible for orange safety colours, from before the days of high-viz. Bought ex eBay for £5, it had a badge in embroidered silver thread [posh or what? ] which I cut off and resold to a collector for £25. Yes, I AM a Scot.

I’m not wearing my Dianese for welding! I don’t think the shoulder sliders are a requirement for mig (sorry GMAW).

No my 2 piece alpine stars gp suit would be rather a pita to weld in. I might look a bit of a tool in it with a welders mask lol.

^^^ I don't know gents, personally I thing that race leathers are the bee's knees. they are already taylored for that crouched position. That padding in the ****, elbows, shoulders are great so you don'y get poked or burnt, the knee sliders are great for low friction advancing during the welding. All positives I thinks

And at £1000 a set I’ll keep em for road rash rather than spatter marks

My leather jacket and lid is for grovelling around under plant so nothing flash, unlike @RaceDiagnostics jacket from the SWEENY
