New welder

Hello,

At last my first welder has arrived portamig 185.
Iv'e purchased some gas at £50 deposit and £37.50 + vat, I'm told the bottle will last for eight hours welding.
Is anybody willing to post pics showing the type of welds possible using the portamig 185. I could use the pics as a reference or a standard to aim for.
Sorry but I don't have a clue and need to start somewhere.
I have read the manual but i don't understand why the caurse power switch has two number 1 settings and two number 2 settings.
I have read the tutorials on the home page.

Since you have read the Tut's on the home page,then just start welding,experience counts for a lot.
Looking at someone else's work will not get you anywhere as that welder might have better set up than the next person or has been welding for quite some time,ect,ect

There no better experience than the hands on approach for each individual.

Tis a bit odd that but it would seem the 1 is the same setting as the other one er 1
same goes for the 2.

Thanks for reply.
I understand the point of using setting number 1 then 1-6 on the other switch before going to number 2 setting. Having two number 1s and two number 2s (excuse the expression lol) on a single switch.... Not too sure about that.

Maybe it's just another silly question from a newbeeeee.

Its just the switch they use, I wondered the same when I got mine.

Do not start on thin material, get something around the 2 to 3 mm thickness from your local scrappy, clean it up with a grinder and then start at coarse 2 fine 3, wire speed about 4.

Make small adjustments after each run until it sounds nice and a decent bead is there.

Then post the pics on here for advice .

Having two number 1s and two number 2s (excuse the expression lol) on a single switch.... Not too sure about that.

Just could be for future modification on later models? ie instead of them buying in a two position rotary switch and be left with a load of switches in the future its will be more economical to buy in 4 position rotary switches for any inteded modifications?
