new welder

OK the manager of the docks met with me yesterday, has said along with general welding dutys he now wants me to do all onsite work ie repairing clad rails, security mesures, gates, etc as an ongoing "projects and repairs". So am now thinking about geting myself a small mig to use onsite along with my inverter, Its got to be light, durable, and powered from about 6kva, I have no experance with small welders, never used a single phase mig. The kemppi miniarcmig looks the type of machine that would be in ideal but any advice would be appreciated.

Dunno about the 'mig' bit but we have a Kemppi Minarc 150 at the railway - a best buy the manager keeps telling me. Only has functions for arc and TIG (if you get the extra bits) - so not much help really

idea is cappy i can use the mig to zap up jobs quickly, the buggers keep pileing on more and more work (shouldnt grumble) so am thinking inverter mig at the mo, dont know just an idea think il go to bed and sleep on it!!!!

The miniarc migs are great little welders, go the whole way and get the 180.

dont know if its any good to you or not m8, i brought a thermal arc 220 gms
inverter, it dose 220amp mig up to 1mm wire, 200amp arc, plus 200amp lift tig.

takes a 15kg spool of wire, has a two year warantie and its jenny and spike protected, will also run gasless wire

dont mean to be shoving it down your throat on my first post and all that,
i just think its a good all round bit of kit

Thanks shepsy, thats the machine i bought yesterday, the rep came down and did the demos, he only had the smaller one so hes droping it off on wednesday, liked the kemmpi but it was far more money for less power, + the TDs got 3 years waranty compared with kemmpi 1 and he did me a 4m torch and a roll of my belloved bohler thryssen rv flux cored for £550 so all in all a good deal i think?

was £550 for the 220 gms ???, if so thats a real bargain

i paid £785, all in for mine and thought i had a good deal, two other suppliers, couldnt or wouldnt do it for this price.

im also waiting for a 550amp migatronic to come from norway, at £1760 which i hoped also was a good price, from the same company, it was cheaper than i could find on the net, but now im a bit worried.

and i am usually such a tight ass

Yes Im talking ex vat. I think its swings and roundabouts, I do alot of trade with this firm i think they more or less break even on machines then take my money back on dinzes, wire etc where you just buy because of your account, bought a hypertherm 1000 powermax plasma and got that for £1400 told that was a good price. £1760 for 550amps sounds pretty good i think hardware has droped in price I rember buying my 300amp murex at about £2000 10 or 15 years ago and paying nearly a grand for my S/H 400 amp philips, there both as good as the day i bought them so i dont think i can really grumble.
