I am looking to replace my MIG, which is starting to take a fair bit of maintenance to keep going. It's an Einhell SGA175 Turbo, which must be at least 20 years old now. The wire feed has given problems and the gun is coming apart, and I reckon technology must have moved on by now. I don't think Einhell was a particularly high standard machine in the first place, but could be wrong.
My principal use for a welder is car chassis frames and bodywork, in mild steel but possibly a bit of stainless pipework and aluminium if possible. I am not a full-time welder, I do all the other restoration work as well. I have a fair bit of experience, but am pretty out-of-date with regard to what's available.
I am looking at the ESAB Origomigs, or possibly Portamig. The Portamig has a lower current setting, but I tend to favour the reputation and back-up from ESAB. Not bothered about price, it has to do the job as well as possible.
Any suggestions gratefully received!
Roger
