New Welder arrived today....Question is...

My new Mighty Mig 150 Gas/Gasless arrived today.....itching to get home to start investigating it.

I am a fairly newbe so want to ask a few questions.

1. The tip is 1mm and the wire provided is 0.9, i guess because it is fluxed wire the OD needs to be slightly smaller....but as a rule of thumb for gas would you have the tip the same size as the OD of the wire.

2. Gas....i have got a conversion and will fit it tonight, question is, what gas do i use? CO2 or Argon...or a mix??

3. what sort of pressure should allow for the shielding when turning the regulator.

What is the best what to set the tension on the wire when loading it in to the Welder.

Sorry for so many questions but i want to get started ASAP

Tip is normal, don't think you can even get 0.9mm tips so it's the next suitable size.
That wire is gasless (flux cored) wire so no shielding gas required.
If you change to solid wire you will need to use gas, argon/co2 mix is preferred but plain co2 works ok if you don't mind a bit of spatter to clean up.
Flow rate, about 10 litres per minute is a good starting point if welding indoors, a bit more if outdoors to allow for what will get blown away.
Wire tension should be set tight enough to feed without slipping but loose enough so the rollers slip if it sticks to the tip.

Cheers Woz...yeah, i realised regards the fluxed wire, I want to weld with gass so will pick up a real of solid wire, I thing the mighty mig can take up to 1kg. So Argon makes it a bit more of a refind weld with less splatter?

10 litres per minute......dumb question but how does that equate to the 1-10 dial on the welder.

Also.....what is the best way to set the correct tension when loading a new real of wire?

Start

- min tension on the rollers
- min wire speed

With a gloved hand you should be able to make the wire stop coming out of the top

increase tension untill you can't stop it and then back it off till you can if that makes any sense

0.9mm (0.035") tips are available almost everywhere here.

Anyplace that sells the 0.035 wire will have the 0.035 tips.

Just incase you don't already know. You want to get 0.6 or 0.8mm solid wire
