Plane struggles to land in strong winds
The flight from Aberdeen got into trouble as it was trying to land at London Heathrow Airport.

mine on the microlite in a crosswind i bounced and took off again 2 times on the runway and landed the 3dThat reminds me of my first attempt at landing![]()
So you have travelled by Dan Air then...As many others have stated - "A good landing is one you walk away from. An excellent landing is one where the plane can be reused".
Had some real lumpy rides with Dan Dare Air out of Luton & across the channel , often at the end of Feb & well into March when the gale force winds would chuck us up a 60 feet then disappear only to catch us 140 feet lower down .So you have travelled by Dan Air then...![]()
That’s what my instructor used to say, God rest her. she, sadly didn’t manage to walk away from her final flight. As many others have stated - "A good landing is one you walk away from. An excellent landing is one where the plane can be reused".
Yep crosswinds and up drafts that’s why military planes fly in and out quite often because of the strange winds.Every other day at Leeds BradfordUK's highest airport. Runway goes over a hill . . .
Bit of a crosswind most of the time . . .
My worst experience of flying was a landing thereEvery other day at Leeds BradfordUK's highest airport. Runway goes over a hill . . .

That’s why pilots from Alaska are so good. Into the wind many of them can land on a short beach. There's a guy that flys some sort of insane hopped up stunt plane over the workshop regular - when we had the buggy running he even used to 'race' us, down the tracks and then do stunts following us around the fields, he'd play for 20-30 mins and then waggle the wings and shoot off - he came over once when the wind was up there at 40-50mph or so and he hung the damn plane right overhead with it just sat at 45*, half engine power and half wind holding it there like a helicopter, I never found out who he was but damn he can fly!
