hi to you all
looking for advice please
i need to weld the floor in my transit right in the middle between the two front seats
can i weld from inside out or should i weld from underneath its for the mot
AFAIK, the MOT doesn't stipulate what position the weld should be made in, only that if welding in a repair patch it should be entirely seam welded.
For it to last, it should ideally be butt welded, so it really doesn't matter, or the whole floor section (or the rotted area, floor edge to floor edge) should be replaced.
if you're new to it then I would definitely do it from above!!!!
I'm very new to welding, and tbh threw myself in at the deep end with corrective welding and finishing on a competition pug 106. I've gotten pretty good at welding from above on stuff like cage plates and seat rails etc but underneath is a whole different ball game!!! I tried to weld in some harness spreader plates I made underneath the car but despite making good practice welds I really struggled underneath the car with limited space etc. Especially as in the pug, panels go from 3 skin to 1 with no visible difference - and I blew a hole . I've since changed plans as the plates are poorly fixed but are still captive where I want them so I'm seam welding a thick skin on the tunnel inside the car instead.
The short version is that welding from above would be much easier imho
