New to this "car welding"

Hi I am new to this with no experience I have bought a classic camper that needs some welding and cant afford to hire a welder. I also fancy having a go at welding this I have bought a new Sealey Mightymig 150. Questions are 1 What gauge of metal should I use for body repairs to the van it is 21 years old and 2 what gauge and type of wire should i use. Any help would be appreacated thanks.

what sort of camper?

0.6 to 1 mm for most of it, at a guess, perhaps thicker in the chassis sections.

usually 0.6mm wire.

Get some 18g steel, it's thin enough to work round bends and beat into shape but thick enough not to burn away once you start to get the hang of welding. I use .8 wire for everything and always have but there are benefits to using .6 on vehicles
