Hi All,

I've been browsing a while, with the result that a Portamig 215 is it's way from Weldequip

I'm currently doing yet another minor restoration of my '72 911 ready in time for Classic Le Mans this year.

This is the rear quarter as it is today, the clamps are just for a trial fit, I'm going for a zero gap butt weld as the metal is thin.

This is the rear quarter as it is today, the clamps are just for a trial fit, I'm going for a zero gap butt weld as the metal is thin.

You might try backing the seam with some small strips of copper so the weld does not burn through the copper will not stick to the metal and can be pulled away when finished, it will also act as a heat sink to slow the warpage.

So it really is "all the gear and no idea"

@zardoz And to think I just bought a new helmet, I didn't realise I received the helmet of the dark side on joining the Portamig club
