New to spray painting

Hi there , new to the forum and spraying

I am wanting to spray some car parts and odds and sods for myself and few friends, from alloys to grills / bumpers.

Ive been reading up on the forum on what sort of paint to use and have been scared away from 2 pack for health and ventilation issues

am i right in thinking 1K Acrylic is cellulose paint? or have i got myself confused.

Also set up wise , is there a list anywhere on the forum on what is needed to start spraying? Im thinking:

Mask / safety gear
150l compressor < think this should be big enough?
gravity fed spray gun < do i need one for primer and one for top coat?
what sort of moisture filters are needed?

Hi Michael welcome to the forum, have you had a look at the PAINT (click) section at the top of the forum.

1k is a similar animal to celly in that it's purely solvent-based, but it's a different paint. Also called "base" or basecoat, it's mostly used as the colour stage with a 2k clear over it. There are 1k clears too, some use those to dodge 2k issues.

Compressors, it's the pump that's prob most important, 3hp is about the biggest you can get single phase without spending loads of ££s for twin-pumps etc. A 3hp/150 litre belt drive should be a good buy.

Need a regulator and moisture trap, you can get these as combined units.

Guns: best with either a couple or one where you can swap setups. Sealey Gold is cheap for that. A mini gun is great for smaller things too. Check the comp can feed your gun/s of choice, there are HVLP guns with heavy air demand.
