New (to me) pillar drill.

Good Afternoon all.

I recently spotted a pillar drill at a price i thought would be rude not to take it on.

It is obviously very old, and i don't think it is Chinese .

Can any one Id it, It has Allcock and Hewit on the motor and Bradson on the pillar, so being as i have been known to be easily confused, i am. Any idea on age?

She needs a little TLC but she has no play in the bushings and the motor seems strong. The Wooden pulley needs work too.

Also she has a odd chuck (not one i have seen before), you tighten a bolt that brings two jaws offset (like this //) together. Ill take another photo, just of the chuck when im next at the workshop.

That's a real wee beauty! I got a much larger Bradson a few months back. Haven't been able to find anything about them though.

Interesting find, the table has survived well without resembling the craters of the moon.

Wonder how and what it was originally driven by, the present layout looks very garden shed made.

Odd you mention the table looking like the dark side of the moon with drill holes.
One machine shop I visit regularly were doing filling and machining about 6 drill tables for a customer.
When I was there you could see all the stages, very interesting.

The drill I just got had only one drill crater, have filled it with some JB weld..looks decent enough for me.

Some of them are atrocious, I would not trust the users with a screwdriver never mind moving machinery.

I was gutted the other week . cleaned my nippy drill vice and noticed id slightly put a bit of a countersink in it with a drill bit 1st time in 43 years ive only slightly clipped my lathe chuck in the same time but did no damage and hardly marked it

Your probably right. Most if not all of the results for Bradson drills on Google images are of hand powered drills.
