New To Me Harrison 600 Milling Machine

The last of the bigger home workshop machines for a while I think...

A very nice Harrison 600 Mill, vertical and horizontal, DRO power feeds, inverter, clutch... made up.

It comes with Clarkson Autolock chuck, whats the first cutters you would buy for this sort of machine to cover a general startup for milling, (I know I could spend £££ etc. But what's a reasonable start). I'll probably need a holddown set as well?.

By attachments do you mean the overarm and arbour etc. then yes it came with that, also a few cutters etc.
Don't think they are all combi machines though.

Nice machine does your Autolock chuck come with both metric and imperial collets? I have both with mine and a selection of each core size is a good start. It depends on what you are machining as to the quantity of each you will need (and the experience you have as to how many you may break!)

Only had a quick look today, there's metric 6,8,10 etc. I'll look better tomorrow...
I will break a few! Will be machining mild steel/ tool steels to start with.

I am a little confused as you mention an Autolock chuck but the pictures show it with an ER chuck in the spindle.

Anyway, if you have no cutters at all, I would sell the Autolock and collets and invest the proceeds in an ER32 chuck and collets. It gives a much wider choice of cutting tools, imperial and metric and will hold drills as well. An Autolock chuck requires threaded shank cutters and there is a lot less choice of these on the market these days (and I have never seen carbide threaded shank cutters).

I think the seller must have kept the ER chuck, it wasn't listed in the deal and some of the pictures are of the machine in it's former home.

For cutters etc it's worth trying your local machine dealer - mine has a lot that he picks up with old machines but can't be bothered to list individually on ebay so he lets me pick through them and give him some beer money. They're normally used (some new) but I pay a quid or two each which is brilliant if you end up breaking a few.

Nice example. Sorry to be a pedant, but 600 isn't the model, it is referring to the 600 Group, of which Harrison is a part.

The manual does state 'when ordering parts for this machine, quote model: 600'

It's neither here nor there for me really but that's what the manual says, cheers
