New MOT C&U requirements

Had a quick search to see if it had been looked at and couldnt find one so appologies if i overlooked it.
So much conjecture regarding proposed EU modified/ fitting of non standard parts to vehicles and MOTs.
The rally car has been heavilly modified and MOT is not a problem, however, half way through the Mk1 Escort project with bubble arches, type 9 pinto for road use etc..............Will we have issues at the end of the project or have i been mis-informed?

EU Proposals

I would give a thought to sign the E petition, I would have a read on the ACE site, the original document and its update, E mail your MP and your MEP and play hell. There are many sites with threads and pages of replies discussing the EU proposal. There is a long way to go. but I do not think the battle is over yet.

If that comes in then it's a whole new ball game! I do like the no not for vehicle over 30y but I bet in the uk we don't adopt that. It also stated mot for trailers not exceeding 3500kg at 4 years so I take it fro that then no trailers unless of a type approved and plated design?

If monocoque has been modified in any way, ie engine mounts moved, bulkhead relieved, gearbox tunnel enlarged, etc, then even now strictly BIVA test applicable despite the car being able to pass a MOT test. If all done correctly then nothing to worry about - other than the cost of the test. DVLA add a marker to their record that a SVA, IVA or BIVA test past so Police can see that a heavilly modified car has already been checked and legal. I expect in the future MOT testers will also be required to check the record for such confirmation if they see a modified car been presented to them otherwise automatic fail.
The UK government has aready said that the cut off for no MOT will be pre 1960 and not 30 years.
I'm not happy with the proposals myself but as a retired Civil Servant know how "the system" works and am preparing for the worse and hoping I'm wrong but doubt it.

It's not the heavily-modified cars that worry me too much. Anything heavily modified should be subject to testing before it's allowed on the road.
But this incoming legislation looks as if it will make illegal all those safety mods that many owners have already made to their classic cars, like fitting aftermarket brake and suspension kits for safer braking and road holding.
