New MIG

Hi,

Needing advice, my last MIG died after about 20 years, didn't use it that often, but liked it. It was a 90 amp so not that powerful and non Turbo so cut out.

I have an old Landrover that needs some work and was after a new MIG, was looking at around £270 for my budget and though of the Clarke 151 TE Turbo.
I have read a recent article suggesting the MIG from the Welders Warehouse is a better option for the same price?

Any thoughts?

Yes, that is the one in question, got a great review in Practical Classics.

One of the advantages was the controls, being a dial rather than switches.

I would stick with the Clarke...well known, popular because it's rated highly for the hobby user and spares by the bucket load if needed

Where would you buy a Clarke from e-bay, Machine Mart etc?

Although not a MM fan, they do offer better back up than Ebay, the best service would be from Weldequip, the guy who is listed at the top, used him a couple of times and excellent.

MM does have VAT free days and there should be one due soon, I get a voucher by email, you would be welcome to it if you wanted, I have done it for another member who saved a lot buying his MIG and a load of kit.

practical classics.... is that the same rag that rated the SIP POS as a "best buy" for years?

in your price range the clarke seems to be the way to go... based on what many of the people on here say about them

Yeah, and that should read 'many years', because I bought my first hobby mig from them back in '81 or '82, after reading one of their SIP car welding resto articles.
It packed up after just over a year's use, the contacts burnt out. All light panel work, too. Put another set in at horrendous cost, and then got rid of it.
