I just joined. I just bought a Miller Dialarc, water cooled. My son told me to start practicing with steel. Now I've done my first try at aluminium.

The bottom right was at a steady 50 amp with 3/32 rod and one restart. This is on a piece of 90. I was real happy with that last part. I can see this will take some practice. The first time I tried was with some very old gas AL rod and I didn't get that exploding rod is bad...

I'm new to TIG but have a some MIG and gas under my belt. Here is the last thing I worked on:

Looks good. By "90" do you mean 0.090"? I would use 1/16 filler. Probably why they look so tall. Maybe a bit more current.

Been meaning to practice mine some more.

I found a footpedal a bug help with aluminum, especially thin stuff. Then you can crank up the amps to start the weld pool and taper off as you get going.

Yes, .090. It was some short pieces of rod I got from my son. He can use 3/32 on 60 and it looks like a machine did it. He told me to get 1/16 too.

Yes, I'm trying everything like pulsing the pedal. Catch with my DialArc is if you go to medium the pedal 'starts' at 45 amps. Not like a modern Lincoln.
